Weekly Vocabulary Practice
Weekly Vocabulary Practice
Each week you must learn eight vocabulary words that I will provide from our reading assignments.
- Record all of your words and practice activities in one spreadsheet on Google Docs, and label the document to reference “vocabulary.”
- On Monday: List each word, its part of speech, a popular definition in your own words or a synonym, and a sentence using each word in an appropriate context.
- On Tuesday: List two different forms of the word, each corresponding part of speech, and a sentence for each new word form.
- On Wednesday: Use the vocabulary words orally in class to earn 2 points per word for correct usage.
- On Thursday: Review the words with a partner or by using Quizlet.com prior to taking the quiz. You will complete a quiz of all eight words the first Thursday, 16 words the second Thursday, 24 words the next Thursday and a final over all 32 words on the last Thursday of the block.

Creative Writing Portfolio
As part of this block, you will create a creative writing portfolio that presents your best writing. Your writing samples, four total, should address more than one genre of writing and more than one topic of interest to you. Through links at the website Digital Textbook, you will have access to a variety of texts from which you can create a response. Be sure to include the URL of the document that inspired you in the final draft you submit on Google Docs.
Your writing should meet the guidelines specified at Weekly Paper Guidelines link. It will be graded using a 6-Trait rubric that evaluates ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. For examples of my expectations, refer to the student exemplars at the same site.
Happy writing!
